CABN PROCESS
CABN uses an innovative manufacturing process to create net-zero, cost-efficient, component modular housing with a fully integrated heating, cooling and solar energy system. Built on a steel frame foundation, CABN features sustainable cladding options and R-40 insulation, finished with high-performance windows and doors. 

CABN MODELS AND FEATURES
Currently, CABN has two models available for pre-order. The Mor.ii is a 540 sq.ft one-bedroom, while the Sonder is a 752 sq.ft two-bedroom unit. Both models have one bathroom,  Spread out over two floors, CABN features wood floors and partitions throughout, opening up to expansive decks, bringing the outside in.

For comfort, CABNs utilize a radiant floor heating system. Smart home technology allows owners to monitor and maintain temperatures throughout the CABN. The HVAC and mechanical systems are optimized for comfort and efficiency, integrating leading technology through heat pumps, heat recovery ventilators, linear diffusers, wall hydrant with vacuum breakers, and split duct systems. The solar-powered roof feeds the CABN battery bank, offering energy no matter where the home is located.

Live Sustainably

To support sustainable living, CABN applies net-zero design strategies that allows the buildings to maximize output while minimizing impact on the natural environment. The application of Energy Informed Design (EID) maximizes energy efficiency and consumption. This ensures CABNs maintain a comfort zone of 21°C -24°C with minimal external energy requirements, like increased draws on HVAC. CABN has achieved progressive improvement on energy data technology. For example, the baseline Passive Haus building Design (6485kWh/year) vs. the resulting CABN EID buildings (2300kWh /year). 

Live Balanced

CABN design strategies are net-zero, which means that the energy conservation, efficiency, and on-site renewable generation accounts for 100% of a building’s (or community’s) energy usage. At CABN, we achieve a net-positive strategy through:
  • Integrated systems for renewable energy through solar panels and energy reserve batteries.
  • Optimized heating and cooling performance through orientation and passive solar gain, allowing CABNs to minimize temperature fluctuations while maintaining comfort.
  • Effective building structure, using shading, window placement, orientation, and wall and roof angles. These elements create a highly efficient structure for year-round comfort and energy generation.
  • Efficient application of a glazing and thermal bridging strategy that includes smart window solutions that minimize energy consumption for optimal performance.
  • Balanced mechanical strategy that reduces the size and complexity of the mechanical systems while improving indoor thermal comfort.
  • Application of building techniques, such as passive solar building design, energy informed modelling (EIM), CABN Component fabrication, non-invasive site strategies, specific building orientation strategies, efficient heating and cooling systems and innovative domestic hot water technology.

Live Connected

Through advanced home energy management systems, CABN offers the ability to connect to nature while still staying connected to work, despite being off-grid. CABN’s home energy management systems allow for performance monitoring to maximize energy efficiency. Intelligent systems within the CABN improves energy use, allowing residents to optimize energy consumption. Automatic thermostats, sharing, and dimmable lighting support thermal loads. CABN leverages the power of the Starlink internet satellite system, allowing residents to stay connected even when off-grid.

Live Nourished

The adaptability of CABN allows for development in remote and rural areas, maximizing the exposure to nature. The design-led cultivation of the biological connection between nature and humans is called biophilic design. Benefits of this strategy include increased wellness, heightened productivity, and improved creativity. CABN’s integration of biophilic design results in an environment that is comfortable, inviting, and integrated into the natural environment.

Live Affordably

Through sustainable materials and construction, CABN offers a housing solution that is affordable for individuals. The price of a CABN may be equal to or less than the down payment of a traditional house– a household making the average annual income for the region can afford a CABN and have monthly payments not above 30% of net income. After construction, CABN continues to be affordable, with less energy and maintenance expenses required.

CABN units can be placed almost anywhere; our team and technology are ready to work on solutions to your needs. We do this through: 
  • Sustainable prefabrication in components allowing efficient shipping to site and fast non- invasive site assembly.
  • Location analysis to identify environmental conditions and natural features for optimal performance of the CABN. This includes the use of solar positioning and climate and environmental conditions to maximize comfort.
  • Application of a best suited waste and water strategies for each project.
